Project Sponsor: LH Martinhuisen
Principle Contractor: CPi
Location: Gauteng
Brief Scope
Transformer Oil Tank Farm
CPi were awarded the control and instrumentation contract for the transformer oil tank farm at LHM
All tank routing, stock levels, and Tanker services were PLC controlled with a one touch menu driven operation on the SCADA system.
Interfacing between the Regeneration (Canada) and Purification (China) plants was integrated into the control system to avoid possible product contamination and optimum operation
Material Handling
Sandvik / Vale (Moatize Coal Handling Project)
Project Sponsor: Vale (Brazil)
Principle Contractor: Sandvik
Location: Mozambique Moatize
Brief Scope
Sandvik subcontracted CPi to implement the personnel and machine safety equipment for the 22 conveyors.
Vale in close consultation with CPi opted for an integrated, intelligent system rather than a conventional hard wired solution. This technique would retain the statutory hard wired conveyor drive interlocking and would allow weekly safety system reporting via the overall plant control system as well as rapid recovery from any unsafe situations.
During the network design phase for the rope, belt alignment, rip and tear switches the client realized the potential this solution presented and added further conveyor instrumentation such as Bin levels, Motor local control station status, magnet and sampler interfaces to it.
Each conveyor communicated to the plant control network layer via gateways to allow full visualization of all conveyor safety interlocks and instruments.
Mining
Harmony Gold Mine
Project Sponsor: Harmony/Rand Uranium
Principle Contractor: CPi
Location: Gauteng
Brief Scope
11- Pump stations (ea. with 4x 3 MW pumps)
≈1.5 km below surface
In view of the continues down time and frustrating underground pump failures Harmony requested CPi to provide a condition monitoring solution for the underground pump stations at surface level. CPi chose a Ethernet fiber network to reach each of the pump stations underground with AS-i gateways to monitor pump vibrations, pressures, flows and motor power consumptions.
